2020: The year of the Mental Health Crisis
There’s no end to the list of changes that have come to pass this year. Whether it’s spending more time at home, fewer opportunities to spend time with our friends or new government restrictions being announced regularly. It’s easy to find yourself sick of the Covid 19 pandemic but there’s no need to be disheartened. You can still lead an enjoyable, healthy life in these times of Covid, even if it will be different.
Meabhairtháinte is a brand new radio show on Raidió na Life that discusses mental health topics. Pádraig and Fódhla can be heard on Mondays at 19:00 exploring issues that affect us all from time to time, as well as new problems that are coming to light as a result of the pandemic. They share their suggestions, personal experiences and useful resources with their listeners every week. The aim of the programme is to provide a platform for mental health difficulties and to normalise the process of speaking up about our struggles.
Recently, they have discussed the downsides of social media, body image and loneliness during the pandemic. In the weeks to come they will tackle seasonal depression, how to cope during lockdown and tips to help you feel at your best.
Pádraig and Fódhla try to create a positive, open space during their show. If you wish to contact them or to find out more about the show they can be found on Instagram (@meabhairthainte).
