The original Irish Roots Reggae Sound Systems takes to the airwaves for a weekly selection of the cream of Roots Reggae. Hosted in rotation by (Raidio na Life regular) T-Woc, Tuathal, Enda Starr and Dub Paul, Firehouse Skank on the wire will be playing Reggae at its finest, from Jamaican Foundation to 21st Century styles. The show will occasionally feature guest selectors from Dublin, Ireland and beyond.
Firehouse Skank has been putting the ‘Dub’ into Dublin ever since 1993. After initially starting up to play charity and activist nights, it began its now-famous regular Tuesday club in the Parnell Mooney in the summer of that year- Dublin’s first Reggae club! That initial residency lasted over two years, after which it played many venues throughout Dublin and Ireland, having a monthly night in Belfast and being regular guests at reggae nights in Galway, Cork, Limerick, Dundalk, Derry and Kilkenny. It built the first authentic custom-built reggae sound system in the country and is now well known for its crisp sound quality with earthquaking bass levels and all manner of special effects. The sound has played host to some of the top names in Roots Reggae including, amongst others: Jah Shaka; Channel One; Disciples; Conscious Sounds; Revelation Sound; Vibronics; Rootical; Roots Ting; Manasseh; Zion Train; R.D.K.; Brigadier Jerry (JA); Downbeat the Ruler(US); General Dotsie.
